Clare O’Connell: The Open Fund for Music Creators
Light Flowing – new album release for solo cello
Cellist Clare O’Connell is passionate about performing new music and finding new ways to hear old music. Since founding her concert series Behind The Mirror, a space for experimental collaborative work, her practise has evolved into a mix of performing, writing, commissioning and curating projects in which she can work with musicians and artists who inspire her. Her debut solo album The Isolated Cellist, a deeply personal collection of ancient & modern music for solo and layered cello, was released in 2021; she is currently developing a body of new work for solo cello focussed on themes of light.
Clare will use her Open Fund for Music Creators grant to record and release with NMC, a new body of work for solo cello, cello & harp, cello & double bass and cello & loop station as a disc entitled “Light Flowing”, with Eleanor Turner (harp) and Marianne Schofield (double bass).
Clare commissioned all the music (except Three Solos) from 6 exceptional composers and is looking forward to recording and then touring this uplifting, light focused new music.
