The Manatees: International Showcase Fund (SXSW 2024)
THE MANATEES SXSW 2024
Hailing from a sleepy town on the south coast of England and now residing in London, The Manatees consist of hyperactive school friends Jay, Tyler, and Miller. Their shiny-but-questioning alt-melodic quests touch on hip-hop samples, funk-driven basslines, and sparkling guitars, drawing knowing comparisons with everyone from MGMT to Klaxons via Jungle, Wolf Alice, and The Strokes.
Last year, the band performed a whirlwind of shows, including support slots with Sundara Karma, Y Not Festival, Isle Of Wight Festival, and BBC Introducing x The Hundred, as well as their own 11-date headline tour, which included sellout shows in Manchester, Bristol, Southampton, and London’s The Lexington.
Thanks to receiving the International Showcase Fund from the PRS for Music Foundation, The Manatees will embark on their first-ever journey to SXSW and the United States. This milestone would have been unattainable without the invaluable support they have received. The expedition holds immense significance in advancing the band’s career on both the international and domestic fronts. It provides a platform for engaging discussions with US labels and agents, allowing them to showcase their live performances and captivate new audiences, thereby expanding their fanbase in the United States. Moreover, the extensive media coverage that the festival attracts annually presents a remarkable opportunity for the band to connect with a broader global audience.
