Weeno Madjum Ad: album recording
Last year we – Bitch ‘n’ Monk – produced a short album called ‘Fulafalonga’ that included the tragicomic “gothic-reggae” (The Guardian) ditty Did He?, whose cruel refrain “What did you do to make him leave?!” has been orally transmitted from London, to Paris, Berlin and has even been heard echoing around the dusty streets of Mumbai. Having successfully carved ourselves out as the only experimental bamboo flute and beatboxing soprano duo in the world, we are now composing our new album for 2015, for which part of the recording costs will be covered by the glorious PRSF. Alongside the more elaborate final pieces, we will also be documenting the free improv sessions which serve as initial ideas for our compositions. Even the squeals, arguments and organic special effects that never make the final radio cuts will be included for the audible joy of those listeners who still commit to a full album. A more well-groomed, digital version will be made available to streaming enthusiasts, but the real, tangible disc will be accompanied by a free-format art book, produced in collaboration with an inspired bookbinder and designer, including a number of scrawlings, pictures and quotations that have been part of our artistic process. We will be using the momentum generated by last year’s successes to broadcast our music across the radiowaves, touring the UK in the Autumn and appealing to Europe for spaces to perform live and become the quintessential Anglo-Colombian export.
