Gene Jackson is one of the world’s elite jazz drummers with a career that has spanned over three decades at the vanguard of the music. He was a member of Herbie Hancock’s trio for nearly a decade along with Dave Holland and Wayne Shorter. This project features pianist David Berkman and saxophonist Tim Armacost, and for a UK Tour Michael Janisch will compose eight new compositions based on the different eras of Gene’s career. The music will be premiered on the road and subsequently recorded for a future release.
Michael Janisch is a freelance bassist, composer, and producer based in London focusing on jazz and experimental musics who has released five albums under his own name. He’s performed with Joe Lovano, Shirley Horn, Soweto Kinch, Gary Husband, Evan Parker, and Lee Konitz. His own music has been featured on NPR, WGBO, WDR and BBC Radio Jazz Programs and has been written about in The Guardian, New York Times, Downbeat and Jazzwise Magazines. At 36, he has been called one of the guiding lights of his generation as a bassist/bandleader and has composed over fifty original compositions and as a record label owner (Whirlwind Recordings) has produced nearly 70 sessions.
