New Year Party 2012

On Wednesday 11th January 2012 we took over Shoreditch’s Cargo venue to celebrate some of the fantastic music we have funded over in 2011 and to spread the word about the exciting projects we had coming up in 2012, including New Music 20×12, British Music Abroad, and the launch of our new funding schemes.

The Central Council of Church Bell Ringers
The sounds of Howard Skempton’s New Music 20×12 composition ‘Five Rings Triples’, performed by the Central Council of Church Bell Ringers, who will ring from across the way at Shoreditch Church.

Serafina Steer (8.15pm)
Serafina Steer, who has just released her new album on the trend setting Stolen Recordings label. For our event she will be performing the soundtrack to the short film ‘This Side of the Moon’ for which she received funding from our Women Make Music scheme (see link below for more info about this funding scheme).

Abimaro & The Free (8.45pm)
Abimaro Gunnel, the writer and vocalist with Abimaro & the Free, received funding through our Women Make Music funding scheme. Abimaro has sung lead vocals on the third leg of Zero7’s most recent World Tour, while James from the band has toured with the MOBO-award-nominees Four Corners, and Alex, who studied music at the highly regarded Brit School, has played for artists such as Rihanna.

Dry the River (9.30pm)
After having received funding from British Music Abroad (see link below) to showcase at the world famous South by South West festival in 2011, Dry the River are now poised to be a major breakthrough act in 2012. Tender melodies coupled with explosive rock…as their biography states, “lyrics that read like a Steinbeck novel and a sonic palette that sweeps from gentle to giant like an incoming storm…”

We were also joined by a Special Guest DJ James Yuill and watch out for flashmob performances from National Youth Orchestra who will be putting down their instruments and performing Anna Meredith’s New Music 20×12 (see link below) composition, ‘Hands Free’.
