Irish Composer Ailís Ní Ríain combines her interests as a composer, sound-artist, producer and writer to create works which challenge, provoke and engage. She is interested in cross-discipline collaboration, sound installation, opera, music-theatre and presenting contemporary music in diverse spaces. Her Carnegie Hall debut took place in October 2008.

Ailís is a graduate of University College Cork, the University of York, the University of Manchester and the RNCM.  Her compositions have been performed in the USA, Italy, Canada, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, Holland, UK, Ireland and France and on Irish, Greek, USA Radio, BBC Radio 3 and BBC Radio 4 (UK) and German Radio.

Lighthouse Lullaby supported by PRS for Music Foundation for Maryport Lighthouse in Cumbria attracted wide publicity including The Today Programme (BBCRadio 4) and Channel 4 Big Art Mob.  StreetSong won first prize at the 2006 ISCM* World New Music Days Short Cuts: Beauty Competition in Stuttgart. It’s been broadcast on RTE Lyric FM Irish national radio, in Festivals in Germany, UK, Switzerland and on German radio. It was included to represent Ireland on MIDEM 2009 sampler CD and was nominated for a British Composer Award in 2009.
