Anselm McDonnell: The Open Fund for Music Creators

Kraina Recording & Release

Kraina is a CD project of new works for voice and various chamber ensembles, exploring the concepts of home, belonging, and displacement. A collaboration with poets and authors from Poland, Australia, North America, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, the texts set to music examine different angles on our sense of home, or lack of it: from the local, everyday patterns of life to larger movements and global shifts.

Anselm McDonnell is an Irish/Welsh composer based in Belfast. He has written over eighty works for a variety of ensembles and regularly works with artists from other disciplines. His music has been described as “abrasive and compelling” (Irish Times) and “substantial and thoughtful… McDonnell’s music is not always an easy listen, and perhaps the contrasts and complexities that it contains are a musical reflection of the multi-layered nature of what it means to be a composer in a community as complex as Northern Ireland.” (Planet Hugill)
