Balladeste: Women Make Music

Production and release of Balladeste’s sophomore album “Beyond Breath”

Preetha Narayanan (violin) & Tara Franks (cello)

Balladeste, a collaboration between Tara Franks (cello) and Preetha Narayanan (violin), will produce and release their anticipated new album ‘ Beyond Breath,’ a collection of collaboratively written new work and original re-inventions of Indian devotional songs.

This innovative acoustic string duo explore the versatility and sound potential of just two string instruments. With traces of contemporary minimalism, Indian classical and folk, the duo co-creates all original compositions that are vibrant and experimental yet melodic and filmic in quality – songs without words with a contemporary alt-folk twist.

Writing through playing, improvising, and finding a shared language without notation, Balladeste merge their varied musical experiences to create entirely unique compositions. They released their much lauded debut album Relic in October 2017 and are set to put their second album next year (with support from PRS and Help Musicians UK).

Performing with a collective array of renowned UK/international artists including Anoushka Shankar, Nitin Sawhney, Talvin Singh, and Kate Tempest and receiving commissions to write for dance and visual art and theatre, their varied work and love of collaboration feeds into their process and performance dynamic as a duo.
