Bill Ryder-Jones: Momentum

Bill Ryder-Jones left The Coral after their fifth studio album ‘Roots and Echoes’, on which his arrangements hinted at a deeper and spectacular compositional talent.

After signing to Domino, in 2011 he released If… a fully orchestrated album, which was a grand ‘imaginary soundtrack’ to Italo Calvino’s post modernist novel ‘If On A winters Night A Traveller’.

Whilst able to put his hand to string arrangement, he is more known for his last album ‘A Bad Wind Blows In My Heart’, a critically revered, downbeat record with heartfelt melodies.

The past year has found him behind the desk, helping artists such as The Wytches, Saint Saviour and Hooton Tennis Club find their sonic world. In between being a producer and string arranger for films, he has been creating his third solo album, which will be coming in autumn this year. A full band album, with light and shade, it will have nods to both Pavement and Pixies. In August he’ll be playing Green Man festival on the main stage and later on in the year heading out on the road with Spector.

Momentum will fund touring to support release of his third album.

Bill told us:

“Had I not been granted the momentum fund I simply wouldn’t have been able to promote my record properly. The money we’re receiving means I’ll be able to go out and tour, there’s just no way I could have afforded to do that otherwise. My career seems to be going fairly well. I have a great team of people around me, from my band to my management and label. I don’t feel I’ve been able to reward those people for all their trust and effort properly and having this opportunity to go and perhaps give the album, and us all, a chance to step things up a notch is for me incredibly important.

I believe strongly in seeing the worth in people’s efforts and it’s so important to me that I can afford to pay my band members correctly. Many thanks, Bill.”
