BISHI: Maya Birth of a Superhero LIVE

BISHI is an independent artist, composer and producer born in London of Bengali heritage, known for her trademark electric sitar and four-octave vocal range. She has self-released 3 albums and several EPs to critical acclaim.

BISHI is celebrated for the use of groundbreaking technology in her live performances, with her first AV installation ‘Reflektions,’ becoming the first artist’s work to be projection-mapped across UNESCO World Heritage sites, The Queen’s House & Royal Naval College, London.

Her collaborators have included Tony Visconti, Sean Ono Lennon, Jarvis Cocker, The London Symphony Orchestra, Yoko Ono’s Meltdown and fashion designer Manish Arora.

The Open Fund will be supporting the live music realisation of BISHI’s first score composed and produced for a VR videogame installation ‘Maya: The Birth of a Superhero.’ This is a coming-of-age tale of a young British Asian girl’s sexuality: her period, her power, her magic, and her protest.

The interactive experience was created by award-winning artists Poulomi Basu and CJ Clarke and will be available via the Meta Quest Store over September 2023. Part One will be premiered at The Tribeca Film Festival 2023 and stars Indira Varma {Game of Thrones} and Charithra Chandran {Bridgerton} voicing the principal characters.

BISHI’s score, which was inspired by Indian Classical music, choral music, ambient electronica, and the sound of horror movie soundtracks, will be realised for voice, sitar, violin, and electronics. This will be filmed on the mixed reality platform Volta, and released as a full album in Winter 2023.
