Britten Pears Arts: Open Fund for Organisations

Snape Residencies give artists the space to create new music

Britten Pears Arts is a pioneering music organisation that been supporting the creation of new work since 1948. Founded by composer Benjamin Britten and tenor Peter Pears, we are a hub for performance and artist development across two beautiful sites on the Suffolk coast. Snape Residencies is a totally free programme for leading artists across genres to explore new ideas and create new work.

Our purpose-built facilities, technical expertise and unrivaled artistic networks mean that we are able to support artists to bring their artistic dreams to fruition. Over the years we have been the birthplace of so many pieces, often blending genres and combining music with drama, dance and art to create work that is fresh and pushes the boundaries of contemporary music making. Our year-round performance programme gives Snape Residencies artists the chance to trial ideas and then premiere their works at major events such as the Aldeburgh Festival.

In 2023-24 we are excited to be working with artists including Tom Rogerson, The Marian Consort, Bill Ryder-Jones and Aditya Prakash. The genres of work being created run from contemporary classical through choral, electronic, Karnatik, dance, indie and pop – this year’s Snape Residencies are a real melting-pot and set to produce some amazing work.
