Britten Sinfonia: Talent Development Partner 2023
Britten Sinfonia, commissioning and composer development programmes
Britten Sinfonia is one of the UK’s most versatile chamber orchestras. Based in the east of England the orchestra delivers a range of programmes, from its headline concert series to programmes with marginalised groups and communities. The orchestra has a particular focus on supporting new music. Through identifying, supporting, and developing emerging composers, as well as showcasing new music through commissioning a diverse range of UK composers.
The Opus composer programme is an established training and development scheme for early career music creators. The programme gives broad and in depth support to music creators over the course of a year: Opus 1 for composers ‘on the first rung of the ladder’ and Magnum Opus, for early career composers. Opus composers are supported by Programme Directors Raymond Yiu and Dani Howard alongside Britten Sinfonia musicians, through a series of workshops, recordings, commissions, public performances and CPD.
Britten Sinfonia will commission six new works from three Magnum Opus composers; David Roche, Crystalla Serghiou, and Daniel Soley for performance in our mainstage concert programme. As well as from eight Opus1 composers. Additionally the orchestra have commissioned new pieces from British composers Joseph Phibbs, Ryan Latimer, and Richard Blackford, as well as international commissions.
