Cherise: Women Make Music

Having graduated from the Trinity Laban Conservatoire (whose alumni include legendary Afro-beat pioneer Fela Kuti and 2020 Mercury Prize nominee Moses Boyd) in 2017, vocalist, instrumentalist and songwriter, Cherise has spent the last few years establishing herself on the UK jazz scene. In that time she has featured on the Seed Ensemble’s Mercury Prize nominated album Driftglass, toured the UK and Europe as lead singer with London-based jazz collective Nubiyan Twist, and capped a successful period off by winning the 2019 Jazz FM Singer of the Year Award. More recently Cherise released her debut EP and after picking up the 2020 Parliamentary Jazz Award Vocalist of the year, has spent the remainder of the year in the studio, writing and recording the songs which will be released in EP format in the first half of 2021.
