CIEL: International Showcase Fund (ESNS)
With members from The Netherlands, Spain and the UK, genre-bending trio CIEL came together in Brighton, England. Drawing influence from three countries’ scenes and combining their love of fuzzy indie rock, goth and shoegaze, the band’s broody and gritty music is tempered by the soft, icy, but emotive melodies of singer Michelle Hindriks. Their EP ‘Not In The Sun, Nor In The Dark’, released in October via Blood Red Shoes’ label Jazz Life (UK), gained them a placement on the A-list of BBC 6 Music as well as multiple spot plays on BBC Radio 1 a great press reception including platforms CLASH Magazine, DIY, The New Cue and Louder Than War.
CIEL are receiving support from PRS Foundation’s International Showcase Fund to play showcases at Eurosonic Noorderslag 2023, returning the project back to the Netherlands where it all started. Funnily CIEL will play an official showcase at Michelle’s former secondary school, which she hasn’t returned to since leaving school aged seventeen. After building their profile on Dutch radio, playing sessions on national stations 3FM, NPO Radio 2 and KINK FM in the winter of 2022, Eurosonic Noorderslag will allow CIEL to further build and develop their profile in The Netherlands.
