Cryptic: Talent Development Partner 2023

Cryptic’s Talent Development programme champions ground-breaking music creators.

Cryptic is an internationally renowned production house in Glasgow that supports and produces today’s most imaginative music creators whilst nurturing the creative talent of tomorrow. We present memorable multimedia performances that fuse music, sonic and visual art. In 2023 this will be achieved through multiple talent development programmes, structured to provide a progression pathway for the musicians we support. This includes creative commissions and residencies, Deep Dive, Cryptic Nights, Cryptic Artists, and Sonica.

Deep Dive is a programme that supports 16 – 25yr (30yr if care experienced) musicians, meeting monthly to develop experimental electronic and live music making skills, whilst gaining confidence in the company of peers. Cryptic Nights is our annual platform for emerging Scotland-based music creators and visual artists with innovative ideas, in partnership with CCA. Over the past 14 years we have supported 329 artists. “Cryptic [gives artists] space to take risks”- Cryptic Nights musician. Since 2012 Cryptic, in partnership with Cove Park, has given musicians creative residencies to exclusively focus on developing their practice.

In 2024, 8 music creators will be in residence at Cove. Established in 2011, Cryptic Artists supports early and mid-career UK-based music creators with year-round professional development including commissions, residencies, and touring opportunities. Since 2011, 38 commissioned works have toured to 60 cities in the UK and internationally, reaching nearly 900,000 people. Sonica Glasgow is an 11-day biennial festival dedicated to world class visual sonic arts. In 2023 a new weekend biennial festival Sonica Surge comes to Glasgow.
