Thinking with my ears

Downtown Kayoto is a trailblazing artist, born in Zimbabwe and raised in Hull, UK. Who is unapologetically merging genre’s or alt pop, RNB and rap to create a sonic of his own, drawing inspiration from the likes of Frank Ocean, Tyler the Creator, Brockhampton, Jordan Ward and many more. He has received co-signs from the likes of Pharrell, Nick Grimshaw, Wayno, Jack Saunders and many more.

Having taken tiktok by storm with his unique visuals that complimented his most recent EP “Learning In Public” he is now one of the key exciting talents emerging from the UK, let alone the North of England. He has already made a mark in the live arena having played Reading & Leeds, Dot 2 Dot and many other festivals whilst being tipped by the likes of Pitchfork and NME as one to watch for 2024. The award will support him in funding his next EP (title to be announced), allowing him to level up his stunning creative for the EP and power it’s musical creation, enabling him to work with his favourite producers and engineers. This is integral as despite immense label interest in Downtown Kayoto, he is maintaining his independant status for now so he can have greater control over musical development and ownership of his music.
