Drake Music Scotland: Talent Development Partner 2023
Drake Music Scotland’s Disabled Artist-led Talent Development Programme
Our 2023-24 Talent Development funding supports our disabled artist-led DMS Create artistic programme. Around 26 artists at different stages of their careers will be funded to develop a range of exciting new work including chamber commissions for the Hebrides Ensemble and pianist Siwan Rhys, mentoring from the composer Huw Watkins and DMS Associate Composer Ben Lunn, and support to collaborate with other professional musicians.
Sean Logan, Scottish star of Channel 4’s The Piano, will be supported to record new tracks for UK festival performances including the Fringe in August 2023 and access industry support alongside his peers. A new partnership with the Advanced Research Centre at Glasgow University between composer and Brainfingers exponent Chris Jacquin and Professor Nick Fells will explore the concept of controllable space and sound design.
A major international collaboration between Clare Johnston and the exciting Eegeru Ensemble from Kazakhstan will take place in Edinburgh in August leading to a concert at the 2023 Edinburgh Festival. Beats-maker Sanjeev Mann will be supported to connect with rap musicians and establish wider links with the mainstream industry , pursuing his mission with new collective Out of the Common to make venues more accessible to disabled artists. Others at earlier stages of their careers will be supported to develop work, access appropriate development opportunities, network with colleagues in the Disabled Artist Network and connect with peers in the mainstream. Genres are wide-ranging from contemporary classical to Country pop, electronic, folk & traditional, hip-hop/rap and rock/pop.
