Eliza Carthy is undoubtedly one of the most impressive and engaging performers of her generation. Twice nominated for the Mercury Prize and winner of innumerable other accolades over a 15 year career, Eliza has performed and recorded with a diverse array of artists including, Paul Weller, Rufus and Martha Wainwright, Nick Cave, Patrick Wolf and Bob Neuwirth. More than most, Eliza Carthy has revitalised folk music and captured the most hardened of dissenters with intelligent, charismatic and boundary-crossing performance.
Her new, self-penned album ‘NEPTUNE’, the first to be released on her own label HEMHEM Records, was described by the Daily Mirror as ‘ Joyfully Extravagant’ and The Independent said she is ‘…..The savour of British Folk Music’.
She has been invited to play a showcase at Womex 2011, with her band, and with the support of the award from PRSF, which is to be used to pay for travel and accommodation costs for Eliza and her fantastic live band at Womex, she was able to accept. We hope that this will really increase her profile outside of the UK and lead to more, exciting, International engagements in the future.
