Hilang Child – recording of new music
Hilang Child is the pseudonym of Ed Riman, a half-Welsh, half-Indonesian songwriter, singer, recording artist and drummer raised in South London. His two albums released so far via the acclaimed Bella Union Records were praised by Clash Magazine, The Sun, BBC 6 Music and others for their mix of rich textural arrangements and atmospheres, anthemic pop hooks, soaring vocals and expressive songwriting, which moved between joyously optimistic and delicately introspective.
His work also spans other mediums, having written music for short films, theatre and other media. In 2021 he led a collaborative music/environmental crossover project titled “Seimbang/Balance”, working with two Indonesian musicians to collect field recordings from threatened wild places in Indonesia and the UK, creating a 5-track body of music from the resulting recordings.
Outside of Hilang Child he also tours as a session drummer and a return to his drumming roots is at the heart of the new music he is currently working on, with recent Hilang Child shows seeing him performing his songs from behind the drum kit for the first time, supported by saxophonists, guitarists and electronic loops.
The PRS Foundation Open Fund will be supporting the recording, mixing and mastering of his new music, projected to be released across 2023 and opening a new chapter for Hilang Child. The funding is hugely appreciated and will go a long way towards making the new material the best it can be.
