Kamal is a 20 year old singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Harlesden. Born in London to Caribbean-British parents, he began playing piano at six and writing songs shortly after. Raised around the eclectic sounds of his mum’s shuffle MP3 player and his dad’s collection of Jazz and Neo-soul records, Kamal found his own style inspired by artists ranging from Radiohead to Sade.
He released his first official single ‘homebody’ in 2020 and it was streamed over 1 million times in its first month, and he has since accumulated over 175 million streams while signed to Independent label Neighbourhood Recordings. After featuring on Dave’s track ‘Mercury’ his debut EP landed him a Ivor Novello Rising Star award and he is currently preparing to release a mixtape in 2023.
The Momentum funding will help Kamal to tour, connect with new fans in new cities, and develop as a performer, and is invaluable to him as an independent artist.
