Requiem for a Fading World

Kerrin Tatman is a Newcastle-based composer and musician who writes for stage, screen and concert hall. They have had their music performed previously by the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra, The Tallis Scholars, Insight Ensemble and The Ebor Singers. Kerrin is currently one of Sage Gateshead’s Artist in Residence 2022-2023 and during this time is writing ‘Requiem for a Fading World’. The piece is a modern reimagining of the traditional Latin text for choir, solo singers and a chamber ensemble, featuring English lyrics by Holy Moly & the Crackers songwriter Rosie Bristow.

Requiem for a Fading World is a live music performance that tells a fantastical, post-apocalyptic tale for modern times. The work is written for choir, solo singers and a chamber ensemble by composer Kerrin Tatman, and features English lyrics by Holy Moly & the Crackers songwriter Rosie Bristow. The secular, narrative piece blends contemporary classical, choral and folk influences and turns the traditional Requiem structure on its head. Requiem for a Fading World will debut at Sage Gateshead on June 22nd. The piece is also an experimental fusion of contemporary classical music and graphic novel illustration. Audiences will be able to follow the visuals of Kris Stewart’s original comic book art live whilst listening to the music. Composer Kerrin Tatman will use their Open Fund for Music Creators grant to fully realise the scoring of the work for the debut live performance.
