Lees: Women Make Music

Lees EP2 Recording and Release

Lees introduced herself last year, showcasing a delicate mix of sounds and introspective storytelling with her debut EP ‘Nightwars’. Having studied music at Goldsmiths, her songs assimilate a nuanced mix of influence: from the intense, ethereal electronica of Portishead to the confessional R&B of ‘Blonde’, via the raw emotion of of strong female artists like Laura Marling and Imogen Heap. Beneath the shimmering surface of songs, you can detect a fiercely independent young woman who has worked hard to have her voice heard. With recording dates for her second EP in place, Lees is a newcomer to watch.

Lees will use her Women in Music grant to produce, mix, master and promote her second EP. This collection of songs follows a journey of acceptance, empowerment and ultimately transformation against the backdrop of a strained relationship. It has elements of trip-hop, electronica and gospel. She will promote it through the release of several short form videos and assets.
