MEMES: ISF (SXSW)

PRS Foundation from the International Showcase Fund will support Glasgow laptop-rock band MEMES to showcase at SXSW in Austin this March. Support will allow the band to attend the convention for a week, playing multiple official showcases, networking with industry and undertaking media opportunities.

MEMES is a laptop rock band from Glasgow comprised of cousins John and Paul (ME and ME) because we are selfish genes.

Since forming in 2019 with a difficult-to-Google name – several gigs in Glasgow and London, a few single releases, favourable comments on the music, unfavourable comments on the ‘dancing’ a BBC live session for Steve Lamacq and many more gigs, the band released their debut EP in 2020 on Fierce Panda Records.

Their infectious brand of indie-punk has garnered airplay on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, KEXP, Amazing Radio, BBC Radio Scotland and kind words from Pitchfork and The Skinny magazine.

In spite of a global lockdown, the band have showcased virtually at festivals from SXSW in the US to The Great Escape, Wide Days and c/o pop in Germany.

The band are currently in the studio with producer/collaborator Darwin Deez.
