Tain Worthies – Mike Vass
Mike Vass has been working as a musician for nearly twenty years, releasing albums under his own name, and producing for other artists. ‘In the wake of Neil Gunn’ – was long listed in 2015’s SAY (Scottish album of the year) award.
Mike Vass’ great-grandfather, the late Alex MacLeod, was the Tain correspondent for a number of Highland newspapers during the 1930s and 40s, and an occasional contributor to the national press. Before he died in 1971, he wrote some reminiscences of characters he had known, or known of, who lived in or around Tain during the first 40 years or so of the last century.
His collection is full of humour, compassion and a deep regard for the human condition. His writing gives a rare glimpse of a bygone era before mass-consumerism, globalisation and the telecommunications revolution.
Tain will transform the 7 stories in ‘Tain Worthies’ into 7 songs – a unique piece of art inspired by his forebears, whilst unearthing and connecting with an intergenerational drive to create, to make sense of and comment on the world around him.
