‘Our Silver City, 2094’ by Celine Condorelli

As part of a major speculative exhibition titled ‘Our Silver City, 2094’ set to open at Nottingham Contemporary November 2021 until April 2022 – contemporary artist Céline Condorelli will be creating a new sound piece that will be part of a greater aural and visual experience.

The sound piece will consist of a series of live and recorded audio-visual episode-compositions. It stems from Condorelli’s existing interest in both exhibition soundtracks and the role of sound in our understanding of display. This piece will explore sound as a singular experience, an encounter that’s shape is the results of the audience’s presence rather than it being pre-existing in a finished form. This sound piece is a living work and will utilise machine learning (AI), in the hope of making musical artefacts that are not records or inanimate digital files, but dynamic compounds.

Celine Condorelli is a French Italian artist, based in London since 1992. Her work spans architecture, sound and art, exploring relationships, mechanisms and structures which often go unnoticed. This often manifests in her work as questions around labour, agency and public voice, subjects particularly pertinent in our current moment. As an artist, she has exhibited extensively both in the UK and internationally. Upcoming exhibitions and public works include: South London Gallery; Nottingham Contemporary; Talbot Rice Gallery. Current and recent include: Nogueras Blanchard, Madrid; IMA Brisbane, Australia; Kunsthal Aarhus, Denmark; Singapore Biennial. In 2017, she was shortlisted for the Max Mara Art Prize for Women.
