Woman at Point Zero by Bushra El-Turk and Merit Ariane

PRSF will support the development of the first phase of acclaimed Lebanese British composer Bushra El-Turk’s new chamber opera, based on feminist Egyptian author Nawal Saadawi’s novel Woman at Point Zero, in collaboration with Shubbak, the UK’s largest festival of contemporary Arab culture, Snape Maltings and the Royal Opera. This opera will be written specifically for German Egyptian soprano singer Merit Ariane Stephanos. El-Turk will also work with award winning writer Sabrina Mahfouz and choreographer Maria Koripas. The material will be developed through a series of residencies in collaboration with Snape Maltings and lead to public sharing of a first stage production at the Shubbak festival in July 2017 in association with the Royal Opera.
