UK Young Artists: The Open Fund for Organisations

UK Young Artists is a charity dedicated to supporting young artists (aged 18 – 30) to develop their skills and expand their practice. UK Young Artists champion the next generation of creativity. With support from the PRS Foundation UK Young Artists will support 11 music creators (average age 24) from across the UK, to take part in our UKYA City Takeover festival in February 2019. To these young artists, mostly in the early stages of their careers – participation in the UKYA City Takeover will be an important springboard for them. Genres include hip hop, folk, experimental electronica, alt-pop, classical and ambient. The PRS Foundation will help to achieve the visions of the artists involved (which in some cases include live painting, projections and film, intertwined with their live music performance).

Artists will come to Nottingham for a week, to take part in and engage with the City Takeover – a “creative holiday” giving them, as one previous participant put it, “luxurious encounters with inspiring art works and practitioners” and opportunities to explore further opportunities and collaborations. The City Takeover will give these musicians the space and time to explore ideas, to perform to new audiences and to realise their potential.

More than 10 music events will be programmed alongside and within events with other art forms – enabling the music creators to reach new audiences (who may ordinarily only engage with visual arts/dance/spoken word/theatre events). All events will be totally free and totally accessible – encouraging audiences to experience something new.
