Happenstance Tour and Album with Galvanize Ensemble and Fretwork

Galvanize & Fretwork ensembles come together for a project of new commissions, improvisations and cut-up explorations of music from renaissance to today. The tour sees both ensembles sharing music and influences, and as combined forces with local improvising groups and audiences; with live art and installation, curated by Claire Orme. The album will bring arrangements and improvisations from both ensembles to realization, alongside the new commissions, exploring electro-acoustic voices from viols to electric guitar, with electronics, film and text.

Pianist Kate Halsall, who created Happenstance and produces projects for Galvanize, is a dedicated performer and promoter of new music. She has commissioned, premiered, recorded and broadcast many new works, and is a frequent collaborator and producer on the creation of interdisciplinary projects.
The aim for the project is to devise successful musical and new visual interpretations with the composers involved alongside improvised material, for a tour and album. We offer composers, performers and fine artists an opportunity to develop their work collaboratively, through open rehearsals and mixed workshop sessions (fine art, film and music) with a professional, highly skilled creative team, including artists and film-makers.
