Surge Orchestra: The Open Fund for Organisations

For:

Surge Orchestra Festival at MAC, Birmingham 21/04/18!

Surge stands for Sidist Utopian Revolutionary Groove Ensemble and is driven by the understanding that music can bring about fundamental shifts in our perception of reality.

Hallucination, visions, outer space alien invasions whilst you’re doing a bit of gardening along with many other tales of everyday madness. Afternoon disco biscuits in small town pubs and heavenly visions by ancient Saints and glue sniffing punks. These provide the inspiration for uplifting, chaotic and emotionally charged music. Out of the chaos comes moments of tranquility and beauty, sincere tenderness and deep melancholy.

As a result of Sid Peacock’s Associate Artist at mac position supported by Arts Council England, Surge has expanded to a 22 piece Orchestra and now seeks to instigate new collaborations with artists from all corners of the cultural and stylistic universe. We also plan to commission new works for Surge from many new composers and present a world of sound and arts at our annual Surge in Spring festival in Midlands Arts Centre.

On 21st April 2018 Surge will present a new work titled Rivers of Love at Midlands Arts Centre. It will be a joint collaboration with Birmingham Rapper Juice Aleem. Juice Aleem has long been acknowledged as one of the finest MCs the UK has ever produced. In addition to his work as a member of the groups New Flesh and Gamma, Aleem has also worked with Coldcut, Hexstatic, Evil 9, Adam Freeland, Mike Ladd, Si Begg and many, many others.
