RSNO Film Composers Lab 2023:24

Back for its second year, the RSNO’s unique Film Composers Lab programme will give five UK-based composers the invaluable opportunity to collaborate with a professional orchestra, under the guidance of expert mentors Patrick Doyle and Danai Kokogia. Participants will craft two new scores for different ensemble sizes, gaining hands-on experience of composition for screen. This hybrid programme includes in-person workshops at the RSNO’s state-of-the art recording facility, Scotland’s Studio, and masterclasses led by experienced professionals from across the film and music industries, providing insights into the art and business of film composition. One composer will have their score selected to feature in the RSNO’s 2024:25 Season and all participants will have their work showcased at a special screening event in Summer 2024.

The RSNO is one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras with a rich history stretching back over 130 years. Our mission is to enrich the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds through our world-class performances and ambitious engagement strategy. The RSNO has a demonstrated commitment to supporting talented music creators and creating a sustainable future for the classical music sector in the UK, particularly through the commissioning and presentation of new music. As Scotland’s National Orchestra, we are in a unique position to champion talented artists in the early stages of their careers and recognise our responsibility to do so, annually delivering several talent and skills development initiatives including the Film Composers Lab.
