Shelf Lives: The Open Fund for Music Creators

Recording of Shelf Lives debut EP, “You Okay?”

“It’s as close to real life as you can get without feeling really depressed about it,” Sabrina summarises – the London-based electro-punk outfit she fronts alongside guitarist/producer Jonny. Mirroring this moment in time, the duo’s music feels chaotic, tense, and wired.

Pairing hardcore punk’s brief blasts of energy with electroclash’s minimal and sleazy sonics, they raise themes of societal collapse and hyper-consumerism with a warped smile. The result taps into headspace that’s as rotten as it is dopamine-flooded, with pent-up frustration and pop hooks tossed together in a way that makes, in their own words, “the f*cked up seem fun”

Shelf Lives will use their Open Fund grant to collaborate on the production and record their debut EP with Mercury nominated Shuta Shinoda at Hackney Road Studios in London. Their aim is to create a dynamic and impactful collection of songs that reflect their unique blend of electronic and punk influences. The EP will continue to showcase their chaotic dopamine-flooded pop hooks while casting a light on what’s really going on using their signature writing style of using juxtaposition to talk about the hard topics in a digestible way.
