‘Live at the Portico’

Made up of Raven Bush, Peter Bennie, Kwake Bass and Biscuit, Speakers Corner Quartet is a testament to the power of collaboration and community. They have arguably been the bedrock of the South London musical community these past 15 years and the tendrils of their influence are far-reaching.

Originally coming together in 2006 as the house band for the legendary, Brixton-based spoken word and hip-hop session Speakers Corner, they’ve since managed to create a family-like bond with one another as well with the artists they’ve joined forces with. Their frequent collaborators have been composed of elite South London talents such as Sampha, Coby Sey, Tirzah, Kelsey Lu, Leá Sen, Joe Armon-Jones, Kae Tempest, James Massiah, Mica Levi and Shabaka Hutchings; all of whom feature on their critically acclaimed 2023 debut album ‘Further Out Than The Edge’.

Dedicated to their art and to each other, the band’s music is a reflection of the love and trust they share. When playing together they see themselves as a singular entity with a hive-mind mentality, working together to create a unique experience for their audiences. With this award, Speakers Corner Quartet will have the tools to continue to push the boundaries of their live show and create new recordings that will be released as an exciting new project ‘Live at the Portico’ in 2024.
