Drake Music Scotland: Talent Development Fund 2018
Building on the work and partnerships we established in 2017-18 with support of PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Partnership, our 2018-19 programme will work closely with 8 music creators (four professional and four ‘emerging’ music creators) who have a range of disabilities and work in a wide range of genres.
Creators like Clare Johnston, who, as part of our 2017-18 Talent Development Partnership pushed the boundaries for composition using digital technologies such as iPads. As well as creating new and original work which can be performed by disabled musicians, Clare has taught herself Jython coding which enabled her to bring together the Thumbjam music iPad app with Eyegaze software for the first time. This has given our musicians, who use their eye movements to control music software and play music, access to a larger and improved bank of instrument sounds.
Our 2018/19 Talent Development Partnership will commission disabled composers and musicians including Clare to compose exciting new works, deliver high profile performances (e.g. Celtic Connections and Cryptic Nights) and attract new commissions and awards.
