Tŷ Cerdd: Talent Development Partner 2018

Tŷ Cerdd’s mission is to promote and celebrate the music of Wales. As a Talent Development Partner with the PRS Foundation, we will continue to work with professionals and non-professionals, composers and performers, to bring the music of Wales to audiences at home and further afield; we aim to protect music of the past and drive the development of new composition.

CoDI Composer Pathways (codi in Welsh = to raise; CoDI = Composer Development Initiative) is the first strategic programme of its kind in Wales, and through it we aim to develop opportunities for classical (including electronic) composers at all stages of their career. We aim to create a community of Welsh composers, promoting shared learning and collaboration; to create pathways to career development and performance opportunities.

CoDI comprises three strands:
At the heart of the programme is INTERACT – an online and physical place for artists to connect. Networking sessions and workshops will take place in locations around Wales (as well as our Cardiff home in Wales Millennium Centre) – with guests speakers, and the opportunity to make connections. The start of a new community of composers.

ELECTRONIC is an opportunity for six composers to write for electronic performance group the Swansea Laptop Orchestra: an open call and selection process, followed by workshops over six months, culminating in a performance and recording.

THEATRE develops a model created over two years with Hijinx (a professional theatre company working with actors with learning disabilities): a young professional composes and realises music for Hijinx’s Odyssey (participatory community Christmas production).
