Laurence Osborn: The Composers’ Fund

Laurence Osborn’s music has been commissioned and/or programmed by the London Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Mahogany Opera Group, Britten Sinfonia, Ensemble 360, and The Riot Ensemble among others.

His music has been programmed throughout the UK, at venues such as The Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, The Royal Opera House, LSO St Luke’s, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival where he was an International Showcase Artist, and in Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, and Switzerland. Laurence’s music has also been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

The Composers Fund will support the London premiere and studio recording of Laurence’s piece Ctrl for amplified soprano and thirteen players.

Ctrl is a song-cycle about masculinity, power, violence, and self-harm written from the fragmented perspective of a male character and sung by a female singer.

Ctrl will be given its London premiere by soloist Sarah Dacey and The Riot Ensemble conducted by Aaron Holloway-Nahum at Kings Place, Hall One, on February 14th 2020. It will then be recorded by the ensemble on February 16th 2020 for release as an EP in 2020.

Laurence said:
I am honoured to have received this generous award from the PRS Foundation’s Composers Fund, which will enable the London premiere, recording, and digital release of my song cycle, Ctrl. Repeat performances and recordings of substantial pieces can be elusive for younger composers, and so I am especially grateful that PRS Foundation  have chosen to support Ctrl at this stage in my career.
