Stephen McNeff: The Composers’ Fund

After many successful year working with voices in the opera and art-song areas, Stephen McNeff will expand his palette of vocal experience by undertaking research in Estonia (at the Arvo Pärt Centre) and – with the help of the Irish Traditional Music Centre – in the extreme north west of Ireland on the Inishowen Peninsula. He will further develop his relationship with Chamber Choir Ireland throughout the country. Belfast born composer Stephen McNeff grew up in South Wales and studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He worked for many years in theatres in the West of England, London, Manchester and in Canada and was from 2005-8 PRSF/PRS ‘Composer in the House’ and Composer in Residence with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Other orchestral commissions have included works for the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra and many wind orchestra commissions. He has written operas for the Royal Opera House, Welsh National Opera and the BSO etc, which have been seen in other productions in Europe and at festivals, whilst his opera ‘Banished’ – originally produced by Trinity Laban in
London in 2016 has recently been premiered in Ireland.
