Petite Noir: Momentum
Petite Noir’s career began in 2012 with a record deal from Domino Records in the UK. Little did he know it would change his life. First single “Till We Ghosts” took him to new heights, performing with the likes of Mos Def and Solange, playing at world-renowned festivals and receiving indispensable advice from my collaborators.
Creative director RhaRha & Petite Noir founded Noirwave, a movement with its roots in music but its vision fixed firmly on the creative future. Responding to current cultural movements centred in Africa – arising against a backdrop of international anxieties concerning borders, nationhood and globalisation – Noirwave offers followers a citizenship which rejoices in freedom of movement, physically and creatively.
It is through the lens of noirwave that 2018’s mini-album La Maison Noir / The Black House was created. Diverse yet instant, the La Maison Noir six tracks are imbued with a spirit that leave an indelible memory. The mini-album features contributions from New York rapper/poet Saul Williams and Detroit rapper Danny Brown, who Petite Noir previously collaborated with on Brown’s 2016 album Atrocity Exhibition.
In 2020, Petite Noir will release his sophomore album and the PRS Momentum Fund will help elevate the campaign to match the level of ambition of his team.
