The Multi-Story Orchestra: The Open Fund For Organisations
We are The Multi-Story Orchestra. We create extraordinary performances, tell stories, and unleash creativity. We perform in car parks.
The Multi-Story Orchestra transforms the way orchestral music is created, presented and experienced: “forget fusty concert halls, the future of music is emerging in a municipal car park” (The Times). Our vision is for orchestral music to help create a more equitable and inclusive society.
Our methods for reaching new audiences for orchestral music have been widely acclaimed: “where were classical music’s next generation of listeners? They were there, in front of us, a thousand of them” (The Arts Desk). Our work has been internationally celebrated: “the response was ecstatic, and it deserved to be” (The New York Times). We have performed repeatedly in the BBC Proms live on Radio 3.
This project will be a new work highlighting environmental issues, created by The Multi-Story Orchestra collective for performances across the UK in 2024. This will include working with emerging artists aged 16-19 from our Young Creatives (a programme that supports disadvantaged young people from Southwark and Croydon to enter the music industry).
Our most recent piece, The Endz, was performed in Peckham in 2022 featuring a full orchestra and a 100-strong choir. The entire run sold out and was covered extensively in The Times, The Guardian, ITV, BBC and more. The Endz was awarded a 2023 Royal Philharmonic Society Impact Award and opened the Southbank Centre’s 2024-5 Classical Music Season this Autumn.
