Song and Expansions: The Open Fund for Organisations

Shirley Tetteh will compose new music bringing together her two musical personas: that of jazz guitarist and composer at the centre of current the global profile of British jazz and that of her leftfield/alt-pop project Nardeydey. Tetteh will compose 60 minutes of new music exploring tensions and overlaps between songwriting, electronic music production and jazz improvisation for a brand new six-piece live ensemble of collaborators.

Shirley Tetteh is a pivotal musician in the UK jazz scene. Her exceptional guitar chops mean that she is in high demand as a sideperson in many ensembles. She has received support through the PRSF Writer Producer Fund and Take Five: UK, and won “”Newcomer of the Year”” in the 2018 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

Her leftfield/alt-pop project Nardeydey has been played on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, BBC Radio 6 Music, and Worldwide FM amongst other radio stations. Tetteh was also included in the Guardian’s ‘Tunisian techno, Xitsongan rap and Satanic doo-wop: the best new music of 2019’ feature written in December 2018.

Song and Expansions will be premiered at Marsden Jazz Festival on Saturday 12 October 2019.
