The Untold Orchestra: The Open Fund for Organisations

The Untold Orchestra is a Manchester based collaborative ensemble aiming to redefine the role of the orchestra in the 21st century. It is founded on the belief that all art forms can be accessible to anyone, which has lead us to collaborate with a wide array of musicians, artists, venues and communities. Bill Laurance is a Grammy Award-winning pianist and composer. He regularly tours the world showcasing his music both as a solo artist and as a member of notorious band, Snarky Puppy, of which he is a founding member.

Bill’s music is what inspired the formation of Untold. Having initially met when we were supporting Bill at the RNCM, we later contacted him during the tour of his album, Cables, and proposed a collaboration creating new orchestral reimaginings of his music. The first of the resulting recordings/videos entitled ‘Cables Rewired’ is now available as a taste of what’s to come! Having enjoyed the process so much, we decided to continue this collaboration. So far this has included remote recording during the pandemic for Bill’s forthcoming trio album, as well as a forthcoming performance for London Jazz Festival at Union Chapel. When we approached the idea of creating an album, we collectively came to the conclusion that it should be in response to world issues such as the pandemic, black lives matter, Brexit and the environmental emergency. We are currently in the process of writing and plan to record in February 2022 with release later in the year.
