Tumi Williams

gweithiwr proffesiynol yn y diwydiant

“As a solo artist I have performed alongside artists such as Talib Kweli, Chali 2na, The Pharcyde, Blackalicious, Jungle Brothers. Also collaborating with the likes of The Allergies, Mr Woodnote, TY amongst others. 2020 saw my music really gain traction with heavy rotation from Lauren Lauverne, Adam Walton, Jo Wiley & Craig Charles.

Aside from my solo work, I have been at the helm of 9-piece monster funk collective Afro Cluster and have written, recorded and toured with the group over the last decade. Performed at numerous high profile festivals including SXSW, Glastonbury, Womad, Greenman, Boomtown and toured alongside Ibibio Sound Machine, Gilles Peterson and Hot 8 Brass Band. Our album ‘The Reach’ was released in February 2021 and nominated for the Welsh Music Prize.

Over the last 13 years, I’ve worked with various artists (International & National) on tours, events under the name Starving Artists. Including Souls Of Mischief, People Under The Stairs, KRS One, Congo Natty, General Levy, Eva Lazarus, Black Sheep.

In 2017, I became a senior booking agent for “Bombarda Agency” using my experiences and insights as an artist to develop, represent and manage artists.

On my quest to support the under-represented within my community, I’ve developed my skills as an educator. Running a series of music/art workshops in schools and mentoring sessions for organizations such as Arts Council Of Wales, FOCUS Wales and Ty Cerdd. This demonstrates my dedication not only to artistic output but to the burgeoning industry and training that underpins it.”

“I am extremely delighted to be a part of the POWER UP programme as it’ll enable me to further support underrepresented artists & future generations making music in Wales.”   Tumi Williams
