LEAH ZAKSS

Leah oversees the British Council’s music programmes across the Middle East, North Africa and China.

She is part of the British Council’s Music team working with over 100 countries to connect UK musicians, educators and industry people with their counterparts and audiences around the world, providing opportunities to share knowledge and experience different cultures.

Its weekly radio show, Selector, is presented by Jamz Supernova and broadcasts the best UK music and emerging talent to over 30 countries around the world, connecting a global community of music lovers.

Leah leads on connections with British Council music partners in Northern Ireland and on building relationships around music and disability. She recently worked with Attitude is Everything to enable translations of their DIY Access Guides into over 12 different languages, opening doors to new international conversations about Deaf and disabled access to live music.

Leah also co-founded and managed the British Council and PRS Foundation’s ‘Musicians in Residence, China’ programme which provided 18 UK music creators with unique, immersive experiences across 15 Chinese cities and has since been extended to Brazil, Russia and UAE.

Leah has over 25 years’ international music experience, with a background in live music touring and festivals and a combined degree in Music and Public Art. She has been an independent music assessor for several UK organisations and is a Trustee of London Arts and Health.
